DONATIONS AND TRANSPARENCY

CAN I MAKE A DONATION?

Yes! Contact us at champions@csrk.ca or send us a cheque addressed to the Kent Regional Service Commission. Please specify in the cheque notes: “For the Champions – Greater Kent Region program.”

DO YOU PROVIDE TAX RECEIPTS?

Yes, we can provide a tax receipt for donations of $20 or more.

HOW CAN I KNOW HOW FUNDS ARE BEING USED?

The program will release an annual report highlighting the money’s impact and use. Eighty percent of the funds will be used directly for youth participation. The remaining 20 % will be kept to ensure the program’s continuity and support the following year’s participants. The program is funded by sponsorships, donations, and community support. The capital is administered by the Kent Wellness Network, host of the Champions | Greater Kent Region program.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION

DO I NEED TO PROVIDE PROOF OF INCOME OR OTHER DOCUMENTATION?

The program is intended for children whose families are in difficult financial situations, preventing them from participating. We do not require proof of income, but our team will still assess the need. It is important that you provide information that accurately reflects your situation. It could be verified.

PROGRAM VS. OTHER SUPPORT

IS THIS THE SAME AS CANADIAN TIRE’S JUMPSTART, P.R.O. KIDS, KIDSPORT NB, ETC.?

No. While it is similar, this program is limited to the Kent region. It was created to be more flexible and offer support to a greater number of families. We invite you to also look into these programs to take advantage of more financial support opportunities.

IN-PERSON PARTICIPATION

DO I NEED TO ACCOMPANY MY CHILD?

Yes, parent participation is strongly encouraged.

CAN MY CHILD PARTICIPATE WITH A FRIEND?

Yes, if they are both eligible and there are enough spots left for the chosen activity.

CAN MY CHILD PARTICIPATE EVEN THOUGH HE OR SHE HAS NEVER TRIED THE SPORT OR ART?

Yes! The goal of the program is precisely to help young people try new things.

OFFERING

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO PROCESS AN APPLICATION?

It can take up to 6 weeks to process an application following the application deadline for the current season.

WHAT IS CONSIDERED TO BE A RECREATIONAL ACTIVITY?

A recreational activity is a pastime that is practised for pleasure, enjoyment, wellness, or personal development outside of school or work. It can be a sport or an artistic, cultural or community pursuit, and the goal is, most importantly, to have fun, move, socialize, and learn—without high-level competition.

Sports: soccer, basketball, swimming, karate, gymnastics, hockey, volleyball, badminton, pickleball, cycling, cheerleading, etc.

Artistic and cultural: dance, music, theatre, painting, visual arts, drawing, photography, etc.

WHERE ARE THESE ACTIVITIES TAKING PLACE?

Activities are generally taking place in the greater Kent area, but some that are offered outside of the region could be accepted if they are not available locally.

ARE THE ACTIVITIES OFFERED IN THE SUMMER OR DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR?

Both! The program runs all year, with activities varying each season.

CAN MY CHILDREN CHOOSE THEIR ACTIVITIES?

Yes, you choose an activity, and then apply for a grant. Afterward, you will be informed whether the activity is available.

CAN MY CHILD TAKE PART IN MORE THAN ONE ACTIVITY PER SEASON?

We want as many children as possible to be able to take advantage of the program, which is why we hold a limit of one activity per season.

FEES AND FINANCING

MY CHILD PLAYS AN INTRAMURAL SPORT. IS HE OR SHE ELIGIBLE?

Yes. The program covers registration to school sports as well.

DO I NEED TO PAY FOR THIS SERVICE?

No, our program is free. Eligible children can take part in activities at no charge up to a maximum of $250.

CAN I APPLY FOR FUNDS FOR TWO CONSECUTIVE SEASONS?

Yes. A child can receive support for two consecutive seasons, up to a yearly maximum of $250. However, having received a grant one year does not guarantee that you will receive one the next. Support relies on available funding, and priority is given to those who haven’t yet benefitted.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

WHAT IS THE CHAMPIONS PROGRAM?

The Champions program provides children 18 years or younger with participation grants to allow them to take part in sports and cultural, artistic and community activities in the greater Kent area.

WHY WAS THIS PROGRAM CREATED?

Getting children involved in pastimes is often expensive and inaccessible to some families. The Champions program was created to give every child an equal chance to participate in programs, and to complement the programs that do not always meet the needs of every family.

IS THE PROGRAM PERMANENT?

Yes, but it is still very new. It will evolve according to needs, and adjustments will be made in time. Your suggestions are always welcome! Be sure to write to us at champions@csrk.ca.
